Folic acid may influence fertility by affecting the energy levels necessary for proper functioning of the pituitary and hypothalamus glands, two major sources of fertility hormones. Deficiency before and after conception can increase the risk of birth defects, premature birth and miscarriage. Role in pregnancy Aids in manufacture of cells and overall development of baby.
